Happy New Year!

As the first post of 2021, I figured I’d start with a bit of a different topic. It’s still designing but not designing a product but rather a team. Jim Collins has a great quote that I think about a lot from his book Good to Great. It goes like this:

They said, in essence, “Look, I don’t really know where we should take this bus. But I know this much: If we get the right people on the bus, the right people in the right seats, and the wrong people off the bus, then we’ll figure out how to take it someplace great.”

This is one of my focuses this year. Getting the right people on the bus. In the Year in Review post from last year, I discussed how one of the major failings of 2020 was not talking to enough clinicians. In my opinion, this is unacceptable. We can’t go that long without talking with the people who will be using our product, especially when we aren’t the primary user. The biggest challenge is finding new and interested users to continue to interview and talk to. An easy-ish way to fix this is to find a subject matter expert. For us, this SME would be critical in establishing (1) product-market fit and product strategy and (2) credibility in the HealthIT and HealthTech space.

What does this look like?

The obvious answer is to hire a Chief Medical Officer. This person is a practicing clinician who has a desire, perhaps even need, to see the EHR be better than it has been. They don’t even have to like our ideas as they are now. We’re about getting it right, not being right, right out of the gate. However, in addition to a CMdO (is that the right abbreviation?), anyone is welcome to join the team. We’ll figure out titles later. The important thing is that we get the right people on the bus. People who are passionate, people who are hard workers, and people who are willing to learn. Perhaps most importantly, someone who can put their ego aside to get the best solution and team possible.

If this sounds like you, or someone you know, please have them get in touch with us at robert@alloyhealthcare.org (there is significant equity available for the right person).

Delayed

The other big update for this week is that Carbon will be delayed (in case you didn’t realize that). We’ve tried out a few different implementation “techniques” and they haven’t panned out. Stay tuned for when Carbon will launch. It’s still coming.

Big News

We have some fairly big news that I’m excited to share with you soon. However, it’s still much too early to share so stay tuned for that. Any guesses as to what it might be?

Until next week,

✌️
